Not mentioned in the deluge of mail you’ve received on this is any discussion of the cost of the election, should you decide to proceed with putting this inadvisable measure on the ballot.
At the moment, the county is being asked to pay 50% of the projected $110,000 cost, with the city of Port Townsend paying the other half.
Such a cost-sharing plan would clearly be inequitable because, based on available historical pool usage, about 90% of the pool’s customer base will be residents of Port Townsend.
No credible evidence has been presented to support the idea that any greater proportion of the new facilities’ customers will be from outside of the PT city limits.
It is only fair, then, to have Port Townsend pay for 90% of the election cost, with the county picking up the remaining 10%.
