To Kate Dean, Greg Brotherton, Heidi Eisenhower, I’m sure the residents of Jefferson County very much appreciate the fact that you are taking the “tax the whole county for an aquatic center in Port Townsend” issue out to the people. Jefferson County is a rather sprawling county with mountains diving the East side of the county from the West. I have to imagine that the Aquatic Center would serve either the East or the West as travel between the two areas for, say, weekly swimming lessons would be difficult & costly. So taxation would be for one or the other halves of the county. While the idea of an updated functioning pool nearby is appealing, I understand there are already a number of pools available to local residents in the county and surrounding counties. Ludlow has both an indoor & an outdoor pool for its residents, though I do not know that those outside the area can access them without a resident sponsor. The YMCA in Port Townsend has a pool it seems the city doesn’t want to update as too costly for the ordinariness of the results. Sequim & Port Angeles both have YMCA’s accessible to the public. I suspect the County could get behind a modest, modern pool, but one that is more centralized for residents, not tucked up in the Northeast corner of the county. I see a lot of “No P.T. for PT” “No Pool Tax for Port Townsend” signs and none to the contrary. That’s my 2 cents. Many thanks, Patricia Earnest Marrowstone Island
