Commissioners, One point that was left out of the meeting at the Court House on Monday was the size of this proposed building. It was never discussed, and we were not presented with an overlay showing the footprint of the existing pool and the new facility. Since the building is 30,000 square feet, we assume that the footprint is something like 100 X 300 feet. In our naivete, we thought the proposed building would be the same size as the old pool. But actually, from the drawing in Jim Scarantino's analysis (link below), the new building would take up all the land down to the ReCyclery bicycle shop, including the dog park. This would truly be a massive structure. Since we live 3 blocks away from the Police Station and the pool, we think that this is a point of which everyone should be aware, and we hope each of you has visited the site. At the same time, you can also visit the site of the failed public housing building known as the Cherry Street project, if it has not already been torn down. It is down Cherry street about 3 blocks away. Now we understand why the proponents of the elimination of the golf course were so eager to relocate the dog park at the corner of 19th and San Juan. Another question: why should we provide free showers for RVers and homeless people to use?
