Dear Jefferson County Leaders-
Many of Washington’s leaders are beginning to understand the gravity of the current situation in Gaza and how much taking a stand counts. It encourages others to stand and shows the
people in your community that their voices matter, especially when they speak for others. At the intergovernmental meeting on November 16, Mayor Faber, Councilor Howard and Councilor
Thomas committed to signing the Washington Solidarity Statement for Peace & Justice in Israel/Palestine. We are so appreciative of their support- every voice matters.
We now have over 40 members of congress calling for a ceasefire. This is amazing but it is not enough for our people in Gaza. From last we heard, hundreds of Americans are still trying
to leave the war zone. They are struggling to survive alongside the people in Gaza. The majority of those in Gaza killed are innocent civilians. Gazans are now facing the most horrendous
conditions. Limited aid or a humanitarian pause is not enough. Even if a ceasefire is called today, Gaza faces a lot- a displaced population of 1.7 million people, thousands added to
their disabled population, an opportunity to rebuild 70% of their infrastructure, and dozens of hospitals, hundreds of schools and of two million lives to repair. We have seen more
children die in Gaza this last month than the last three years across two dozen war zones COMBINED. And the current situation in the West Bank is getting worse by the day as well as
they are being bombed, including a refugee camp. Gaza cannot survive without American help & intervention.
Will you sign the Washington Solidarity Statement? This will show your community and the world that we as Americans mean it when we say liberty and justice for all. The international
community turns to us because of our strength and because they see we have an incredibly evolving but ever consistent love for freedom and a free world.
We can’t rest until our voices are heard and help reaches our brothers and sisters in Gaza. Let’s help remind other leaders and community members what our responsibilities are. We
will not allow history to continue to repeat its terrifying cruelties in our time.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration in standing with us, and the care you and your peers take to keep our town beautiful and safe.
