Commissioners, If you do not wish to publicly support the people of Israel, at least remain neutral and DO NOT publicly support the Palestinians/Hamas. I submit the following: The English term "Palestine" itself derives from the Latin Palaestīna, which, in turn, derives from the Koine Greek Παλαιστῑ́νη, Palaistī́nē, first recorded in the 5th century BCE. Per Martin Noth, the name likely comes from a proto-Semitic word, albeit there is a strong similarity between Palaistī́nē and palaistês, the Greek word for "wrestler/rival/adversary", which has the same etymological meaning as the Hebrew word "Israel." This was expanded by David Jacobson to theorize the name being a lexical blend of the word for Philistines with a direct translation of the word Israel into Greek (in concordance with the Greek penchant for punning on place names. JEWS ARE THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF THAT LAND SINCE 1250 BCE. The Jewish population in the land of Israel has increased and decreased throughout the centuries because of the diaspora, but they have always remained there while a good portion of Jews have wandered the earth searching to live in peace while the other half of their people stayed. 𝟏. You are a defined territory. You are a permanent population. You are a government. You have conquered that land. The Jewish people are the ONLY ones that can fit this description for the land of Israel. A call for the Jewish people not to be the leader of their own land that they are: - indigenous to, - have always populated, - have conquered - have governed, and have been a beacon of advancement (technology/education) for society is anti-Semitic and anti-Jewish. Remember, there was already a cease-fire in place on October 6, 2023. The “Palestinians” broke that truce on October 7th. Sincerely, Todd Oberlander Port Hadlock
