Dear Board of County Commissioners, Thanks for hearing my oral Public Comment about how the first study on HEPA filtration effectiveness against covid unexpectedly found double the number of cases in HEPA-equipped kindergartens: https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/bmjopen/13/7/e072284.full.pdf Key excerpts: "No study to date has assessed the impact of HEPA filters on the actual COVID-19 incidence. ... Providing such filters in public facilities prompts a significant financial investment, thus requiring clear evidence. ... Our study showed no significant preventive effect on COVID-19 period prevalence in the kindergarten setting. ... In fact, the mean period prevalence of the control group was 186 per 1000 children, whereas a mean COVID-19 period prevalence of 372 per 1000 children was observed in the intervention group. ... In the control group, the mean prevalence ... was 529 per 1000 childcare workers, while it reached 1193 per 1000 childcare workers in the intervention group." This hugely counter-intuitive result is a perfect case study that you really cannot know how things are going to work until you test them. Big interventions like lockdowns, mass masking against viruses, warp-speed mRNA injections, etc. might sound good in theory, but without taking time for randomized controlled trials or other appropriate long-term testing, you could be making a tragic mistake interfering with complex systems you do not understand. Re masking, there's a big difference between surgeons using surgical masks to prevent spitting bacteria into wounds, and regular folks using similar masks to prevent airborne viral transmission. Masks mostly just redirect exhalations up blowholes in front of the eyes and backwards through the sides of the mask, pumping the same amount of viruses into the atmosphere but in unexpected directions. You can test this yourself by forming your thumbs and index fingers into a circle, then pressing them into a mask around your mouth, thereby forcing your breath to pass through the mask instead of escaping around the sides. Notice how hard it is to breathe now? It is a much different experience than normal mask use, which just reroutes exhalations. My specific concern is the order forcing mask wearing on Jefferson Healthcare workers to prevent covid outbreaks. Is this requirement still in effect? It is not grounded in science and has many negative consequences. https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD006207.pub5/full https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37426866/ https://rwmalonemd.substack.com/p/do-not-comply Yours truly, Stephen
