Good afternoon,
Attached is the 14th issue of the electronic newsletter The Learning Forest, which is a collaboration between DNR’s Olympic Experimental State Forest (OESF) Research and Monitoring Program
and the University of Washington’s Olympic Natural Resources Center (ONRC) to share scientific knowledge on sustainable land management. You also can find the newsletter on DNR’s website
at this link <https://www.dnr.wa.gov/publications/lm_oesf_lf_fall2023.pdf> .
The featured article describes the learning-based collaboration process and explores ethnoforestry, a people-centered management approach being implemented as part of the Type 3 Watershed
Experiment in the OESF. The guest article describes a major new initiative by Peninsula College to increase education and workforce development opportunities through their new Natural
Resource Program, which started on the Forks campus this fall.
As always, we welcome your comments and suggestions for improving the publication. Email me or Teodora Minkova <mailto:teodora.minkova@dnr.wa.gov> with your ideas.
Sincerely,
Cathy Chauvin
