HomeMy WebLinkAbout120423 email Oppose special election for an aquatic center in Port TownsendALERT: BE CAUTIOUS This email originated outside the organization. Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them.
I submitted the correspondence that follows this message to all members of the Board of Commissioners on November 18, 2023 in opposition to a proposal for an aquatic center in Port Townsend.
Now, it is my understanding that a push is being made by a coalition that supports the project for a special election next year that would cost the county $110,000 to have the aquatic
center put on the ballot. This is a waste of tax payer dollars and with the real estate taxes that I pay, this is exactly the type of misuse that upsets me.
All county taxpayers should not even be asked to consider paying for an aquatic center in the city of Port Townsend especially when the current city pool has less than six-tenths of
one percent of the county population using the pool. I am also hearing about cost overruns for this project in excess of $10,000,000.
NO. Make the hard decision to stand by people throughout the county and oppose a city of Port Townsend proposal that is pursuing funding by the whole county.
Thank you for again accepting my comment to OPPOSE THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND AQUATIC CENTER AND A SPECIAL ELECTION REGARDING THIS PROJECT.

My understanding is that the Port Townsend Aquatic Center will impose sales taxes on all of Jefferson County to pay for a bond for $22,100,000.
I do not want to be taxed for this project proposed for the city of Port Townsend.
I live in the Cape George Colony Club home owners association and ALREADY AM PAYING FOR A YEAR-ROUND POOL AS ARE ALL OTHER MEMBERS OF THIS COMMUNITY.
An aquatic center in Port Townsend is useless to those of us who already have a pool for an amenity and members of Kala Point Home Owners Association are paying for their pool which
is available for six months out of the year.
In the November 7, 2023 election, voter turnout was just 43.69%. Four Port Townsend city council members ran unopposed. I do not vote for these people. The voters who are keeping
these people in political power for years on end are the ones who must pay for projects that come out of the Port Townsend City Council. This is a city council that can't even keep
up road maintenance and comes up with a tax for that purpose.
Oppose the Port Townsend Aquatic Center. The whole county should not be burdened by the poor judgment of the members of the Port
Townsend City Council.
Use common sense!
Thank you for your attention to this topic.
