Making a financial contribution in the last year entitles you to vote in the upcoming JCIRA board election. If you aren’t sure whether you made a JCIRA donation or to be excused from this voting requirement, please contact JCIRA at 360-232.6070. In the last few years, we’ve made a special effort to recruit immigrant persons to serve on the board. We have a slate of 3 new candidates, all unopposed. Francisca Ramirez Aquino, a JCIRA volunteer, has helped at several events, teaches a beginning Spanish class and is in the JCIRA Women’s Justice Circle. She is from the Dominican Republic and has six children, the youngest 16 years old. Francisca is committed to giving back to the community however she can. She works as a housekeeper and caregiver and is learning to become a certified interpreter/translator. Francisca lives in Port Townsend. Adriana Sixtos is an immigrant from Mexico who lives in Sequim. She has experience in community organizing and worked hard with JCIRA to organize an event in Sequim about benefits available to immigrants. She is active in the JCIRA Women’s Justice Circle, works as a housekeeper and loves to help people. Johnathan Avila moved to Port Townsend with his family 3 years ago. He came to the US from Mexico at the age of 3, owns a furniture restoration business and is experienced with accounting software and statistics. He is enthusiastic about wanting to support the work of JCIRA. Jonathan and his wife parent three school age children. Vote online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KS5H88D Voting ends Dec. 13th. If the candidates are elected, we’ll have 9 board members. We can have 7 to 13 board member so, if we wish, we can add additional members during the year (to be affirmed by the membership at the following election.) Whether you are an immigrant or not, if you’re interested in being on the board or have questions about the election, please call Jean at 360.774.2232. Thanks, and please vote asap!
