Dear Commissioners, The time difference in Japan prevents me from participating in public comment on December 11. Please consider these words as my voice. My deep concern over the proposed new swimming pool facility has nothing to do with the known health benefits of water therapy and safety lessons. As you recall, last year my community of Quilcene emphatically voted down a proposed bond for our school district whose facility needs are more urgent and local than a regional pool. The current discussion about funding a pool that geographically benefits the greater Port Townsend public could be flipped : would those same folk pay to support our school district's plans to replace our elementary building? But even more concerning than the perceived inequality of access is the recent financial study of the current pool proposal by a local contractor, Mark Grant. His detailed report is based on years of experience. The large variance in costs and building schedule he reveals reinforces my decision to NOT SUPPORT this current proposal, especially if funded with a county wide sales tax!! Any additional countywide taxes lessen the ability of our school district to pass bonds and levies. I urge you to have the same caution and not committ our countywide citizens to a sales tax increase to fund this poorly planned pool proposal. Sincerely, Kathleen A. Kler
