This 2023 law will also make it easier for folks to use reusable water bottles by requiring bottle refill stations in newly constructed large buildings. According to the Department of Ecology, in 2017, Washington residents and businesses generated the equivalent of 112 pounds of plastic packaging waste per person, yet only 17% of that waste was recycled. That’s why we are working to pass extended producer responsibility <https://publicinterestnetwork-dot-yamm-track.appspot.com/2XYyToYb0bV835Reii93K4Wu5GEu0L0uX_pcZJULFjwa0IFFkjAFn zKKZPFGPT9rO6SzMcJ2htFXiRLZOHCu6nCgUm-IXcDn7ip7J236Bm6xycnwdDQf8Afhw8R09Xf70lQfisB1_-LSV-LqCuuMQ2kVXWhRTtLGHURiafPH3BsX8T4iKWFQz2OYZDNmvDkNj7VzPg-Xtu0LyAZxhjjoCzRBaGiLYjuyEdsSVxW218KrPQSsS4uSO8EmNnWY gRRdVTpe_ZRo> legislation next year, which makes the companies that profit off of selling us plastic responsible for the plastic waste that is created. With producers paying to clean up their single-use plastic pollution, we could invest in stronger recycling and waste management systems throughout the state and see the industry shift to making more durable and less wasteful products to eliminate the unnecessary single-use waste in the first place. We have a strong coalition of more than 100 city council members and county commissions who are supporting this effort. With the legislative session starting in January, we are working to find even more city and county officials across the state to show broad support for protecting our environment and communities from our growing plastic waste problem. Will you sign onto our letter in support of producer responsibility to tackle plastic waste <https://publicinterestnetwork-dot-yamm-track.appspot.com/2-3QIYKoh5SIbYdPM4DdbctKel7pEHf3opYDWaecdZNa4IFFk jAGUdqgF7_P8gO2e1J4nZ8HMJMZR3Tk8w5OpQz0bwFGVVtQVqrFnFtzJskcmi7ZiVE99o8OdacClRJR0hJzAKZlz2bbZK7fx6nEYCCkl4EwrO3sQYVsrtKzPc25UolZNv2C5FbshVmNzwuVvw9M_BnIUs2tUJ3mHUYzEoa6_OcA0V0MKdgCNHLjHAU-6i9KZc6NhyKm JdeUs6us53Zny8MQjaM5fqFIapHLSh0Q> ?
