Commisioners,
As a retired businessman and the Chief Financial Officer of a successful Jefferson County Home owners Association for 9 years, I urge you not vote for consideration of the pool project.
The business case supporting the project is highly optimistic. To my trained thought process it appears to be a classic “bait and switch”. The proponents are urging you to support
the project based un unrealistic estimates of operating cost and construction cost. “Accept this proposal today and pay a lot more in the future”.
I urge you to exercise your fiduciary responsibility. We cannot afford the project, especially as it is likely to cost much more than estimated in the future. When that happens, we
will not have a choice. We would be forced to pay for any over runs, or see the pool go the way of the “Cherry Street Affordable Housing Project”.
Some of are not be completely opposed to a public pool in Jefferson County. We do want further consideration for a much less costly version and in mid-county where land is available
and would be more accessible to families and growth; and where new infrastructure has now made it possible. If the commissioners vote now to move forward to a vote it would not give
consideration for any other options.
Please vote as if someone would actually hold you personally responsible for the decision you made in the future.
