Before you approve the suggested schedule of Fire Marshal fees, I would like to get some specific answers to the questions I posed when this item last appeared before you.
1. For each proposed fee, is it charge annually or only once per actual inspection?
2. For each proposed fee, define fully what is required and what will be inspected.
a. What is “Hot work”
3. Why is there any fee for “Solar Panels”? The state L&I is responsible for electrical permits, and the mechanical permit to install the panels is already part of the DCD fee schedule.
Solar panel do not constitute any fire hazard and this line item should be removed from the proposed fee schedule.
4. Exactly what types of businesses will be subject to the fees?
5. Will any fees be charged to non-commercial buildings?
A FEE is something that is paid in exchange for a service. If there is no inspection, there cannot be a fee and it becomes a TAX.
Please remember that as you consider the imposition of these proposed fees.
