HomeMy WebLinkAbout121823 email Comments on PT Pool (0002)Deer County commissioners, it is my understanding that plenty of taxpayers money is being spent on studies and consultants about the placement of a new pool in Port Townsend at the expense of all county taxpayers. My questions are: 1. Why is the city of Port Townsend not footing the bill for such a city structure? 2. Why do the residents of the entire county have to pay for such a luxury that will never be used by the majority of the people? 3. Why must South County have to bear the burden for the pleasure of a few? We are not talking about funding for an emergency issue, or more funding for the hospital district or the fire department district or housing for the homeless, or bedded infrastructure. We are talking about a pool that, although very nice, is not a necessity of life, especially when you are asking all of us in the entire county to add more taxation to our already shrinking personal budgets. Why are you spending our hard earned money on something that is not an emergency for the county? It is not only absurd, but borders on ridiculous and absolutely unfair. Frankly, such a decision places you in very poor light with voters. We elected you so that you could make responsible decisions that would benefit all of us, not the few: “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.” That is a quote from a science fiction movie, but it is applicable to real life. Well, the voters in the county, particularly South County, who are being taxed to pay for such absurdities totally object to spending our money so that less than one percent of the population of the entire county can enjoy a facility. Please stop, just stop. Thank you, Connie Gallant Quilcene
