HomeMy WebLinkAbout121923 email Port Townsend Aquatic CenterDear Commissioners:
I am writing today to add our opinion of the new aquatic center.
We, along with friends and family, find ourselves just overloaded with increasing prices on everything from daily living expenses to increases in home and car insurance, property taxes
and the myriad of other expenses we have had the misfortune of having to pay that our government continues to burden us with. We recently had to invest in new tires for our car, even
though they were on sale, it was quite a blow to our tight budget.
We have heard from many people in this area and beyond who are objecting to having to pay for a facility that they would not use and that would be our case as well. Port Townsend is
over 30 miles from us, one way. The gas to visit as well as having to pay an additional use fee is not something that is in our budget to pay, even once a week.
Why is Port Townsend not funding this venture? How much has already been spent on consultants and the various studies to determine placement and feasibility? I believe I am paying
taxes that are being used for those studies and definitely feel those funds could be put to better use, such as fixing the half plus mile of muddy road we have to drive on as the road
department doesn't seem to have enough funds in their coffers to afford gravel to fix it.
I think a pool is very important to a community but having to pay for something that won't be used by the majority of people in the south county area is asking too much. Putting a proposal
on a ballot would also be an unwarranted expense, just say no to taxing all of Jefferson County, or waste more money by putting it on a ballot. .
