In our piece in our December newsletter about the Salish Coast Multicultural Night on December 1st, we failed to recognize the key community members whose hard work made this event a
reality. Thanks so much to Azurite Nuray, Zhaleh Almaee, and the Community Equity Initiative (CEI). The Community Equity Initiative took the lead in organizing these events last year,
working alongside the school district. The event was funded by an anonymous donor through the Jefferson Community Foundation, with additional financial support from the Community Equity
Initiative.
We also want to acknowledge Luz Rosario and Bianni's work in creating a space for kids and their families to engage in crafts, as well as the effort they put into making the event accessible
by teaching crafts in both English and Spanish.
This was an amazing event, and JCIRA was excited to be included. Thanks to those who brought this omission to our attention.
The Community Equity Initiative (CEI) works for racial justice for BIPOC, especially youth and families, in a predominantly white, rural community. Consisting of all BIPOC organizers
and leaders, they draw on their intersectional wisdom to promote the systematic eradication of inequities and create a culture of belonging. CEI builds racially equitable experiences
in the public school system, provides opportunities for families to connect and learn together, and strengthens the visibility of BIPOC leaders who are both role models and cultural
