Olympic National Forest welcomes back Supervisor Lawrence
Olympia, WA – January 8th, 2024 —The Olympic National Forest is pleased to announce that Forest Supervisor, Kelly Lawrence, will return to the forest January 15th, 2024. Lawrence took
an extended leave of absence starting late last spring.
Acting Forest Supervisor, Al Watson, will return to his post as District Ranger for the Kern River Ranger District on the Sequoia National Forest in California. Lawrence and Watson have
been working together since mid-December to ensure effective communications and a smooth transition.
“I’ll always value the time I spent on the Olympic Peninsula,” said Watson, “The many partners, projects, employees, and landscapes provided me with enduring lessons and memories I’ll
keep throughout my career."
Named Forest Supervisor for the Olympic National Forest in March 2020, Lawrence is originally from Portland, Oregon. She has served in leadership, research, partnership, and planning
positions in her 20-year career with the Forest Service. Her duty stations have included the Coconino, Fremont-Winema, and Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forests, as well as the Pacific
Northwest Research Station.
“I’m so thankful I was able to spend this important time with my family and for Al’s leadership and commitment to the Olympic,” said Lawrence, “I’m looking forward to continuing his
good work and building on the forest’s successes.”
Upon her return Lawrence’s priorities include reconnecting with employees, partners, and communities across the Peninsula. Later this year the Supervisor Lawrence and the Olympic National
Forest will be available at various events to reengage and hold space with interested parties.
