SUBJECT: Outreach proposal for regulations governing rentals for less than 30 days
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
On December 20, 2023, the Chief Strategy Officer prepared an agenda request for the Planning
Commission’s consideration which includes, among other things, a proposed outreach program. At that
meeting, Planning Commissioners expressed concern about additional meetings in January since others
were already scheduled. Commissioner Ahren Stroming suggested considering multiple evening meetings
in one week.
Subsequently, the Chief Strategy Officer met with Commissioner Dean to discuss the proposed short term
rental outreach schedule. Commissioner Dean stated most of District 1 is within the City of Port
Townsend with the exception of perhaps 200 to 300 homes clustered near Hastings outside of the city
limits. For this reason, Commissioner Dean suggested that it may be best to invite those residents to the
District 2 meeting or, alternatively, to scheduled two District 2 outreach events. In conclusion, I’ve
decided to recommend scheduling two District 2 outreach events so that those who live near the Port
Townsend city limits would be able to attend given concerns expressed by members living in this area. In
response, please review the proposed schedule, as more fully set forth below, and provide comment in
advance of any public press release.
