HomeMy WebLinkAbout011124 Existing Mountain View Pool Facility Rebar testing_ etc_ALERT: BE CAUTIOUS This email originated outside the organization. Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. Dear Commissioner Dean, Thank you for taking the time to respond to my email. I remain concerned that whoever is providing construction advice to you and the steering committee does not, to put it bluntly, know what they are talking about. Rebar in a building can easily and safely be assessed using a variety of common techniques. It is done all the time. Just one example: rebar can be inspected using ground penetrating radar and/ or ultrasound. So, not only can the soils under a building be investigated safely and effectively as I explained in my previous email, so, too, can the rebar in a building be appropriately investigated. I would also like to note that the steering committee had no one from the local construction industry participating. That may explain why a terribly flawed plan (shockingly, without a geotechnical inspection, stormwater plan, seismic evaluation, etc.) got this far. The shortfalls and problems in the current proposal are deeply concerning and portend enormous cost overruns. I write to you only as a very concerned citizen. I would like to clarify that I seek no role in any future construction of an aquatic center, wherever and whenever it is built with whatever construction method is chosen. Please take my words here to heart. I am happy to offer my assistance and expertise to you to discuss these matters further, so please feel free to reach out to me if you wish. Thank you for your time and thank you for your continued service to our community! Mark L Grant
