That’s why the National Comprehensive Cancer Network recommends genetic testing for patients with potentially hereditary breast, ovarian, pancreatic, and prostate cancers. <https://secure.fredhutch.org/site/R?i=r5N9iAEm3ACB5b0JQTqI5VM3TQAlez4AdORba39QmQVK1UZkd5SZ6A> Research by Marianne Dubard-Gault, MD, MS, and others at Fred Hutch and UW Medicine, points to the need for more genetic testing. Dr. Dubard-Gault found that while the frequency of genetic testing in high-risk patients has increased over time for ovarian and breast cancer, there are still gaps for other cancers. Her findings highlight the need for better patient and provider education, more genetic counseling, and better insurance coverage for testing among high-risk patients. “I believe that the information we gain from genetic testing should lay the foundation for the care we provide you and your family,” shares Dr. Dubard-Gault. Committed supporters like you help make studies like this possible and could ultimately help improve access to genetic testing for those who could benefit most.
