Dear Commissioners,
I want to start by thanking all the Road department folks who were out clearing the county roads this last week. They were working under harsh conditions.
Although I’m sure they did their best, I feel that the roads still needed more attention. Days after the snow there are still patches where the roads have ice built up and not enough
sand on them. It looks like the plows weren’t set low enough to adequately clear the road.
I think what is needed is more trucks on the road plowing and sanding not just the main roads but the side roads also.
The thought I had was, what if the county had a list of emergency drivers who could be called in to operate more plows/sanders if there are county vehicles available for that purpose,
or have a list of contractors with their own plows/sanders who could be called in.
My other thought is that Kitsap County was spared from the snow and bad roads that we experienced. Could it be possible to call them over for mutual assistance during these specific
incidents where only one county is hit by snow.
I might add that a family member who was crossing Montgomery Lane to get our mail fell on the road that had been inadequately plowed and not sanded. She required a trip to the Emergency
Room and is now in a splint and using crutches.
Thanks for listening to my thoughts. I hope Jefferson County can do better next storm.
