Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. Hi Commissioner Dean, My name is Gracia Anderson, and I am reaching out on behalf of Environment Washington and the Plastic Free WA Sin Plastico Coalition with another update of our efforts to establish extended producer responsibility (EPR) <https://environmentamerica.org/washington/resources/the-washington-recycling-and-packaging-wrap-act/> in Washington to reduce waste and improve recycling outcomes in Washington state. Thank you for showing continuous support establishing EPR in Washington! Some exciting new updates: * The Re-WRAP Act (HB 2049) had its first hearing on January, 9th, and advanced out of the House Committee on Energy and Environment this Thursday January, 15th! Onwards and upwards! * We hosted a Lobby Day for the Re-WRAP Act in Olympia on Monday, January 15th. There was an amazing turnout with nearly 100 constituents from around Washington! These constituents met with over 70 Washington State Representatives and Senators to discuss the Re-WRAP Act and benefits of extended producer responsibility. You can read more about it here. <https://environmentamerica. org/washington/articles/rewrap-act-lobby-day/> Additionally, to continue spreading awareness on the Re-WRAP Act we are hoping to get letters to the editor (LTE) published in local newspapers across the state. Since local governments manage recycling programs across the state, it’s local electeds and local solid waste managers that have seen first hand the challenges we face with recycling, resulting in increased costs and decreased efficiency in our recycling programs. When you signed onto our letter, you indicated that you’d be willing to submit an LTE about recycling & producer responsibility. I would be happy to get a first draft started for you that touches on your experience/frustrations with waste & recycling, and how extended producer responsibility could help address it!. Please reach out to me (ganderson@environmentwashington.org <mailto:geanderson@environmentwashington.org> ) if you are interested in getting one published! Thank you again for being part of this strong and growing coalition of more than 100 city council members and county commissions who are supporting this effort. Best, Gracia Anderson Environment Washington Intern ganderson@environmentwashington.org <mailto:ganderson@environmentwashington.org>
