HomeMy WebLinkAbout012224 BOCC Discussion on NCS landsALERT: BE CAUTIOUS This email originated outside the organization. Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. Greetings Commissioners I attended (virtually) the DNR NCS lands allocation discussion today (Jan 22, 2024) and would like to offer the following comments: * I agree with Peter Bahls comments regarding Commissioner Franz announcing that the Dabob Bay area would be expanded to 3,000 acres. I was at the community gathering where she made that announcement and remember it well (Nov 14, 2023 at the Port Townsend Maritime Center). Expansion of that area would be of significant benefit to provide a larger contiguous area with many parcels already in the older, structurally complex forest category. And from a long-term management standpoint, this makes sense. * Definitely the Mt Walker parcel itself has wonderful plant communities and older structurally complex forest characteristics. I advocate for its permanent protection (it needs to be permanently protected!). * I question whether the Notch Pass parcel is the best choice in this case, and think the Shore Thing parcel may be a better choice. Certainly, older carbon-dense forests are vital for long-term protection (to help us secure a sustainable (livable) climate). * I support the motion that was passed at the Jan 22, 2024 BOCC meeting. I apologize for not offering these comments during the public comment session at your Jan 22 BOCC meeting. It's been too long apparently and I did not find a way to do a Raise Hand (or equal). Thank you for all of your hard work. - Cyndy Bratz private citizen of Jefferson County
