Thank you for your briefing this morning February 5, 2024.
I sincerely urge we continue monthly briefings and perhaps relabel them “community health and well-being”.
The continued on-air community monthly briefings would allows us to broaden the topic areas and continue to keep people thinking big picture and long-term — and allow questions, when
they arise to be fact, checked.
Respectfully
Rita Kepner.

County Commissioners, Dr Allison Berry, and Willie Bence,
It appears to me that the community has fewer questions about Covid as there were no listener questions sent in to KPTZ this month since the January 8th update.
Today I have generated some questions myself and canvased some KPTZ staff and other friends of mine for their questions for Monday’s update.
I know there are still Covid cases occurring in the community that I hear of through word of mouth but maybe Covid has become one of the many viral infections possible this winter and
isn’t as scary anymore or generating questions?
Please see the questions listed below for the BOCC update on Monday, February 5, 2024.
Thank you,
Lynn Sorensen

Questions for Dr Berry:
1. How does one know where they are in the Covid infectious state if they have had a ‘cold' for over a week and then they develop worse symptoms including vomiting and finally test
positive for Covid, not having tested previously?
When would they be eligible for Paxlovid in that scenario?
2. Does the Public Health Dept still want positive Covid cases from home tests reported to them?
3. Is there anything new about Paxlovid use? Is it harder to get a prescription now?
4. Anecdotally, I think maybe there are more cases out there right now, but they seem milder. True? What's the overall trend in severity of Covid cases?
5. It seems that almost everyone I know who's traveled and come home has gotten Covid in that time.
Is travel by plane the biggest factor for getting Covid? Or relaxing mask use while on vacation?
6. I've gotten the latest booster vaccination for Covid, but I find myself dragging my feet on getting more shots. What are the relative risks of contracting Covid vs the flu?
How does the relative risk change with age?
7. I have been surprised by the rise in Salmonella infections reported from even processed foods this winter. Raw chicken is a known vector but cantaloupe, lettuce, and boxed food stuffs?
Does rinsing lettuce or the surface of cantaloupe prevent the spread of Salmonella or just put it on your sink surface?
Is Salmonella in the dirt? And, if not brought up to a certain temperature continues to live on the surface of foods?
Question for Willie Bence:
1. Did Jefferson County Department of Emergency Management get much in the way of reimbursement from FEMA or other governmental organizations for all the mass vaccination clinics, call
center, and mask distribution efforts during 2020-2022 pandemic response?
