The settlement process is three years into an 18-year process, with equal payments coming annually from each of the largest distributors. The bills are a response to the 2020 Babb Road Fire which destroyed most of the small town of Malden in eastern Washington’s Whitman County and the Gray and Oregon Road fires in Spokane County which burned 366 homes and claimed two lives last August. Local governments have until the end of this year to enter into contracts to spend it — not just obligate it — and the projects or services must be completed by the end of 2026, Mark Lane, Clallam County’s chief financial officer, told the county commissioners at their Monday work session. Again I get to share that the news for the WA BoS CoC is as excellent as it can possibly be! Every one of the projects accepted and included in the priority listing we submitted to HUD was awarded funding. Just like last year, every single one. All renewals (Tier 1 and Tier 2), both new DV set aside projects, both new regular bonus projects, and all YHDP projects were awarded and will start or be renewed in 2024. The total for our CoC is $17,598,846 which is a whopping 21 percent increase over last year.
