Hi Commissioner Dean,
My name is Gracia Anderson, and I am reaching out on behalf of Environment Washington and the Plastic Free WA Sin Plastico Coalition with another update of our efforts to establish extended
producer responsibility (EPR) <https://environmentamerica.org/washington/resources/the-washington-recycling-and-packaging-wrap-act/> in Washington to reduce waste and improve recycling
outcomes. Thank you for showing continuous support establishing EPR in Washington!
Some Exciting Updates:
* The ReWRAP Act (HB 2049) is being heard by the House Appropriations Committee tomorrow, Thursday February 2nd at 10:30 AM. Please show your support for the ReWRAP Act & sign in PRO
<https://app.leg.wa.gov/csi/Testifier/Add?chamber=House&mId=31826&aId=158360&caId=23767&tId=3> before 9:30 AM tomorrow. Onwards!
* The ReWRAP’s Senate companion (SB 6005) was heard by the Senate Energy, Environment and Technology Committee last Tuesday and the hearing went well!
* The competing waste management bill (HB1900) will no longer be going forward, though we predict opposition lobbyists will try to weaken the ReWRAP Act through amendments in committee
or on the floor.
Additionally, it is critical that we continue to show legislators that extended producer responsibility (EPR) is something municipalities care about. Please take a few minutes to sign
in PRO <https://app.leg.wa.gov/csi/Testifier/Add?chamber=House&mId=31826&aId=158360&caId=23767&tId=3> for the ReWRAP Act (HB 2049) before it goes to House Appropriations this Thursday.
Thank you again for being part of this strong and growing coalition of more than 100 city council members and county commissions who are supporting this effort.
Please reach out to myself (ganderson@environmentwashington.org <mailto:ganderson@environmentwashington.org> ) or Pam Clough (pclough@environmentwashington.org <mailto:pclough@environmentwashington.o
rg> ) if you have any questions or would like to get more involved!
Best,
Gracia Anderson
