HomeMy WebLinkAbout020124 Request for Letter of Collaboration on NOAA grantALERT: BE CAUTIOUS This email originated outside the organization. Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. Greg and Heidi, Tami and Cindy have been working with NODC on a proposal to NOAA’s Climate Resilience Regional Challenge grant program. I believe I’ve mentioned this grant to both of you. We’re requesting $1.23 million for planning and pre-development work to reduce risks from climate change, with the following objectives: 1. Formalize Collaborative membership and decision-making processes. 2. Develop risk reduction prioritization and ranking criteria. 3. Assessment, planning, design, and engineering for floodplain, estuary and nearshore projects that would reduce flood risk to developed areas, including Tribal communities. 4. Assessment, planning, design, and engineering for projects that would reduce risks from sea level rise and storm surge (including projects that would have tsunami risk co-benefits). 5. Planning for drought and water shortages arising from changing precipitation, snow and glacier melt, and other climate patterns. 6. Identify potential locations for “resilience hubs” to assist communities experiencing natural disasters. NOAA asks for letters of collaboration that commit to the activities in the grant proposal and assign a project director from any government or entity that will have a decision-making or project development role. We very much hope that Jefferson County will play such a role, as they have been doing during the proposal development phase. I’m afraid that my request for a letter is coming to you pretty late because of a family emergency. The proposal is due 02/13 and ideally we’d like to have letters in hand by the end of the day on 02/08. That timeline may not work for the County. The latest we could receive a letter and have time to include it in the proposal packet would be 11am on Monday, 02/12. I’m attaching a sample letter of collaboration FYI as well as the LOI that was submitted last year and the most recent draft of the full proposal, which is still in rough form as we incorporate comments and additions from collaborators. I can also share the letters that we’ve received from Port Townsend and Clallam County if that would be helpful. Please let me know if you have questions or need further information. All best, Karen Karen Affeld (she/her) Executive Director North Olympic Development Council (NODC) 360-477-1593 karen@noprcd.org www.noprcd.org I’m sending this message at a time that works for me. I don’t expect a response outside your normal working hours.
