Hi,
I would like to draw your attention to the food safety ratings used in King County and Thurston County.
Restaurants must post the average of the last four inspections in the form of poster near the restaurant entrance, with emojis to represent the rating.
Jeffeson County restaurant inspection ratings website makes it difficult for county residents to easily search and understand if a restaurant has had good or bad inspection ratings.
King County puts the information on the window of the restaurant in a visual , understandable form.
Public Health in Jefferson County has the goal of education and regulation of food safety practices. The visual emoji poster on the restaurant really helps to educate the consumer and
motivate the restaurant to adopt the best practices for food handling.
People appreciate knowing if an establishment is outstanding in it’s food handling or less so.
The https://www.doh.wa.gov/CommunityandEnvironment/Food/RestaurantInspections <https://www.doh.wa.gov/CommunityandEnvironment/Food/RestaurantInspections> does provide the needed information,
but it takes eight steps or more to arrive at the data needed. Many Jefferson County residents do not know where or how to find the data on food handling.
Many states have placed the data in a manner that a smart phone app can access the data at a moments notice . Iif you are walking by the Blue Moose Cafe and considering going in for
lunch, your smart phone uses your gps location to bring up the info about the restaurant inspections for this restaurant. The 30 point rating is not helpful. An A B C system, or emojis,
that makes it clear what the inspections mean needs to be added .
CDC has found restaurant-caused foodborne illness outbreaks have increased
Thankyou for your attention.
