Hi Commissioner Eisenhour, Gracia here with Environment Washington and the Plastic Free WA/Sin Plastico Coalition with a quick update about our efforts to reduce waste and improve recycling outcomes in WA. Unfortunately, the ReWRAP Act (HB 2049) did not make it off of the House Floor by the 5pm deadline yesterday. Thank you so much for your support for establishing producer responsibility for packaging and paper products. We had an outpouring of support for this bill from Washingtonians around the state, including youth, citizens, and local electeds like you from rural, suburban and urban communities and more. We also made considerable progress with discussions with the waste industry and other opponents and won the support from AMERIPEN and Teamsters. This work is not to be understated. Thank you again for being one of over 115 city council members and county commissioners who have been supporting this effort. The support we received from local electeds like you and other stakeholder groups this year puts us in a strong position to pass the ReWRAP Act in 2025. Please reach out to myself (ganderson@environmentwashington.org <mailto:ganderson@environmentwashington.org> ) or Pam Clough (pclough@environmentwashington.org <mailto:pclough@environmentwashington.o rg> ) if you have any questions.
