Honorable Commissioners,
I have great news to share and an action request!
The House Capital Budget includes a proviso for an additional $25 million for encumbered lands. This funding would be used according to the proviso we talked about a couple of weeks
ago. If you’ll remember, it includes some conservation of older forests, and we are working in partnership with Conservation Northwest, Washington Climate Action, Sierra Club Washington,
and the Center for Responsible Forestry.
This would begin purchasing the second portion of the Deep River Woods tract in Wahkiakum County, and the majority of the funding (60%) would be for currently encumbered state forestlands
for Clallam, Jefferson, Pacific, Skamania, and Wahkiakum counties.
Please reach out to Representative Tharinger and thank him for including encumbered lands in his budget proposal (supplemental state capital budget). Also, because the appropriation
is not in either of the senate’s proposed budgets, please encourage Representative Tharinger to hold strong and do everything he can to keep the $25 million in the final adopted supplemental
state capital budget.
Please also reach out to your delegation and express your support. Ask your House Representatives to also reach out to Representative Tharinger and encourage him to hold strong. Ask
your Senator to let Senate Ways & Means Chair June Robinson and Senate Capital Budget Chair Mark Mullet know that they support the House appropriation for encumbered lands.
Please reach out and express your gratitude and support as soon as possible. We only have a little over two weeks left in the session and budgets will be going into private negotiations
in just a few days. Now is the time to do everything we can to get more funding for encumbered lands!
Thanks for your help!
Sincerely,
--
