Skatepark
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Review draft letter of support to the Olympic YMCA Board to support their fiscal sponsorship of the
Quilcene Skatepark.

RECOMMENDATION:
Review, update if necessary, and consider approving and sending the letter of support.

Association Board of Directors- Olympic Peninsula YMCA,
We are writing in support of the committee working to develop a skatepark at the Quilcene
Community Center. The Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners has supported this
program from the beginning with a$20,000 grant for community outreach and design with a
professional consultant.
That process has been a great success, and with the support of Jefferson County Public Works,the
committee is attempting to apply for a Washington Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO)
Community Outdoor Athletic Facility Grant(COAF)which requires a fiscal sponsor with experience
with athletic facilities. The first fiscal sponsor, as you probably know, was deemed to not have the
requisite experience.
Both staff and elected officials have been working with this group to get a low maintenance outdoor
athletic facility for one of our most economically distressed rural communities. While the due date of
March 8, 2024 for this grant opportunity is challenging,the BoCC supports this project and hopes
that it meets the criteria for the YMCA to step in as fiscal sponsor and continue your good work in
South Jefferson County.
