The $500 award, provided by an anonymous community member, will be given to a young person who has, in the last year, shown leadership, commitment, and innovation to build a community that’s healthy, happy, sustainable, and deeply connected to nature for generations to come. The list below provides some examples of the types of actions that eligible nominees may be taking to demonstrate their commitment to environmental action in our community: * Demonstrating involvement/initiative in environmental protection/restoration and/or new projects * Influencing people’s behavior toward sustainable living * Building environmental and climate change awareness within our community * Engaging collaboratively and bringing about positive change Eligibility Requirements: * Nominees must be between 12-19 years old as of March 14, 2024 * Nominees must live in Jefferson County * Jefferson Land Trust current or former staff members, board members, or their immediate family members are not eligible to win the award or to nominate anyone for the award. Nomination Instructions: The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 1, 2024. The winner’s guardian will be notified by email on March 8, 2024, and the winner will be announced at our 2024 Conservation Breakfast on March 14, 2024. Meet 2023 Fairbank Award Winner Diego Murray <https://saveland.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=25cbb92181e6db1730fe5fb21&id=5499348bff&e=c62e014255> The inaugural Fairbank Award for Youth Environmental action was given to 16-year-old Diego Murray of Eaglemount, who was chosen from nine worthy nominees. Diego was nominated by four different community members who spoke glowingly of his daily dedication to, and support of, his rural community in Eaglemount; his tireless work ethic; his passion for nature; and his enthusiastic mentorship of young people as an assistant instructor at CedarRoot Folk School. “I was honored — and surprised,” Diego said of winning the award. “I didn’t realize I was having any impact at all.
