This Guide serves as an essential tool for state agencies and organizations utilizing state funds within the Snoqualmie Tribe's ancestral lands. Through Advocacy 101, you’ll learn the basics of advocacy and best practices for advocating for important conservation and recreation initiatives with lawmakers and land managers. After completing the course, you’ll be ready to continue advocating for an issue or place you care about on your own, and with fellow outdoor enthusiasts at organized lobby days and other opportunities. We use a trust-based approach to dismantle historical barriers to funding. In this initial pilot round of grants, Together Outdoors will make one-time awards of $5,000 to $10,000. Applicants must serve a majority constituency of communities of color, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, and/or other intersecting minority groups." Applications due March 11. In the meantime, we would love your input on the awards! Nominate people who inspire you within the outdoors community. There are three awards people can be nominated for: * Joan Thomas Award: Created to recognize conservation champions who have worked tirelessly to ensure that the next generation has access to the same beautiful parks, wildlife habitat and working farms that we enjoy today. * Forward Award: Created to recognize young leaders working tirelessly to protect Washington’s natural places. * Evans-Lowery Distinguished Leadership Award: Created to recognize individuals or organizations forging unique collaborations to achieve big things in the outdoors. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife used this grant to restore approximately 150 acres of a 250 acre field on Phantom Butte located in the Swanson Lakes Wildlife Area in Lincoln County. Annette Diggs, a microbiologist on weekdays and ski instructor and paraglider on weekends, guides Alison on how to ease into downhill skiing in beautiful Stevens Pass. As the edge of their skis cut through powdered snow, Annette shares her experience carving a path for BIPOC youth in this winter sport.
