Steve has been our director of marine operations for the past two-and-a-half years and brings a wealth of experience to this job. I have full confidence in his ability to lead WSF at this critical time. I intend to ensure a smooth transition and will work with Steve over the next two weeks so he is well prepared when I hand over the keys on March 16. <https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/WADOT/2024/02/9074572/5290359/2022-director-of-marine-operations-steve-nevey_crop.jpg> A career mariner, Steve progressed directly from high school to a maritime academy in the United Kingdom. At WSF, he has been instrumental in the development of programs that address ongoing staff shortages in the industry. With my decision to step away from the role to spend more time with family, we launched a nationwide search for a successor. Thank you to all who expressed interest in the position from both within the organization and from outside WSF. Two separate interview panels led to Steve being offered the job. Thank you to the panelists for their time and attention making sure we’ll be in capable hands. Please join me in congratulating Steve on his new role. I know he will steer us toward new horizons and chart a course for our long-term success. ________________________________ Head of WSDOT visits the fleet WSDOT Secretary of Transportation Roger Millar recently toured our ferry system, making his way across the Salish Sea over the last five days. He visited with a variety of employees aboard our vessels, and at our terminals, Eagle Harbor Maintenance Facility on Bainbridge Island and warehouse in Seattle. Joined by members of our Executive Team, Roger talked to staff to find out how best to support them and the customers we serve. Thank you to Roger and our employees for working together to build a better future for our riders and our workforce! <https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/WADOT/2024/02/9068378/240226-roger-millar-tour-kaleetan-2_original.png> Secretary of Transportation Roger Millar watches in the Kaleetan wheelhouse as the crew guides the vessel. <https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/WADOT/2024/02/9068373/5287791/240225-roger-millar-tour-friday-harbor_crop.jpg> Roger in Friday Harbor during his daylong visit of our Anacortes/San Juan Islands route on Sunday. ________________________________ SR 305 roadwork through northern Bainbridge Island If you use State Route 305 just south of Agate Pass Bridge to access our Bainbridge terminal, prepare for lengthy travel delays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 6.
