Dear Commissioners, I do not support an "Aquatic Center" and do not even support a committee to discuss the possibility. I worry that such a committee will just stall the issue for now in hopes that the proposal for the Aquatic Center will have a better reception sometime later. We can use a swimming pool for the use the high school and the county and city populace. But this can be done much less expensively than the proposed Aquatic Center. Why not a simple pool and locker rooms? This is not a rich county although there are a sizeable number of rich people who live here. But as you drive around the county it is very clear that many people live in substandard housing and therefore presumably having trouble making ends meet. Why should these people be taxed for an unneeded Aquatic Center that they don't have time to use? Many people have two jobs and families to raise. While their kids might get to use the pool through the schools they don't have time to be recreational swimmers. The cost of housing, groceries and fuel is particularly high now. How can you possibly subject people who are struggling to a tax for such a frivolous purpose? Once again, I support a plain and simple pool with locker rooms. Presumably this could be built through grants and donations and perhaps a new school bond, not by creating a new taxing district. I strongly oppose any other new taxes for this purpose.
