Subject: Recognition for Outstanding County Service
The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners would like to recognize the outstanding county
service provided by Mr. Rickey Ray, Roads Maintenance Technician IV. In January 2024, when the
Solid Waste Division was facing potential Saturday closures of the Transfer Station due to acute
staffing shortages, Mr. Ray agreed to work 50-hour weeks to supplement the Solid Waste staff to
avert these closures. Essential services like solid waste disposal rely on a few dedicated employees,
and it is thanks to employees like Mr. Ray that essential county services can continue to be
delivered.
Since coming to work for Jefferson County in 2011, Mr. Ray has worked tirelessly to keep
county roads safe and in good repair. He has always been one of the first to answer his phone in the
middle of the night, and he has worked through many late-night shifts and weekends clearing snow
and trees from roads. He is an exceptional operator on the brush cutting equipment, regularly having
the highest production rates and leaving a neat roadside appearance. Mr. Ray has consistently
demonstrated the ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations. A job is never done
just "good enough" for him. He has an impeccable safety record over his 12+ years of county
service. Mr. Ray has consistently demonstrated the qualities that exemplify a model county
employee, and his positive "can do" attitude is an example for us all.
The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners does hereby recognize and thank Mr. Rickey Ray for
his excellent service for the citizens of Jefferson County.
