Peters, Community Development Director Joel Peterson, Associate Planner Date: March 11, 2024 Subject: Approval for Advertising,Planning Commission District 3 Vacancy STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Planning Commission member Michael Nilssen resigned from his District 3 seat on February 21, 2024, vacating his term that expires on March 17, 2024. The Department of Community Development (DCD)wishes to conduct public outreach in order to fill this vacant seat. ANALYSIS With the Board approval, DCD plans to advertise this position with the attached ad in the newspaper or record, The PT Leader, as well as on the Jefferson County website. These actions will facilitate filling the vacated seat. The appointment will be made by the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC), following candidate interviews. FISCAL IMPACT/COST-BENEFIT ANALYSIS: Jefferson County has budgeted for a 9-member Planning Commission and associated advertising costs. RECOMMENDATION: DCD recommends that the BoCC approve the attached advertisement for publication. Jefferson County Planning Commission Vacancy Help shape our community's future growth&character! There is a position open for the Jefferson County Planning Commission in District 3. The volunteer term runs for four years, beginning March 17, 2024, or as soon as filled, and ending March 16, 2028. There is a possibility of serving more than one term. District 3 extends from southern Oak Bay to South County and the West End. A district map is available online at the website given below. The Planning Commission assists the Department of Community Development (DCD) and prepares advisory recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners. The group provides a forum for public review of land use and planning proposals such as the Comprehensive Plan, zoning designations, policies and regulations that guide development activities around the county. The group does not review project-specific permits. Upcoming work may address these local issues: • Comprehensive Plan Periodic Review • Housing Issues • Hospitality Establishments Meetings are typically held the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 5:30 PM virtually or at the Tri-Area Community Center in Chimacum.
