The Honorable Patty Murray

154 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510
Dear Senator Murray,
On behalf of the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners,we write in support of the Hoh Tribe's
(Tribe)Highway 101 Intersection Safety Improvement Project request for Congressionally Directed
Spending/Community Project Funding.
Over the last several years, the Hoh Tribe has developed and is in the process of executing a long-term plan to
locate housing and community buildings, including a fire station,on higher ground for the safety of the
community. The Hoh Tribe's new housing development area will be built on tribal land in an area close to
Highway 101. In addition, the Hoh Tribe will be building an economic development project, including a
travel center, across Highway 101 from the tribal housing area. Highway 101 is a high-speed traffic area
serving residential traffic, tourists, and logging trucks. With a new residential area and travel center area being
built, it is critical for the safety of drivers that a new intersection with turn lanes and deceleration/acceleration
lanes be constructed.
This is an important project that the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners supports for the safety
of our community.
Sincerely,
Kate Dean, Chair, Dist. No. 1 Heidi Eisenhour, Dist.No. 2 reg:rotherton, Dist. No. 3
