HomeMy WebLinkAbout032524 email - Failure to keep public informedALERT: BE CAUTIOUS This email originated outside the organization. Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. Commissioners, Over the weekend, a post on the county’s Facebook page was brought to my attention. DCD appeared to be bragging about how many new building permits had been processed recently while, at the same time, saying that people can expect at least a delay of at least 6 months for new applications. That latter part is nothing to be proud of, particularly if DCD is “fully staffed” as has been stated recently. But, the main point of this email is to note what a miserable job Jefferson County is doing when it comes to keeping the public informed. I do not and will not use Facebook; it’s a horrible, hate-filled platform that has caused nearly irreparable damage to our country in many ways; the fact that the county continues to support it (via clickbait, ads, etc.) is a huge disappointment. 2,200 followers do not represent 33,000 county residents. And yet, Facebook appears to be the only place that DCD chose to post its announcement. …Not on the county’s main website under “News” …Not even on DCD’s own web pages under the “What’s New!” topic [ https://co.jefferson.wa.us/1516/Whats-New ], where the most recent entry is dated 05-21-2021. Jefferson County has employed a “Communications Specialist” for several years. From everything I can see, the money spent on that position has been totally wasted. Do better. Thank you, Tom Thiersch
