For the month of May, Historic Districts’ merchants are invited to showcase student artwork, created in the Port Townsend Schools, for “Art Wave!” Children’s art is installed as part of this promotion. It’s time to beautify the streets of Port Townsend with colorful hanging flower baskets. The Port Townsend Main Street Program is now taking orders for the baskets and signing up merchants in the Downtown and Uptown historic districts for the watering program. The flower baskets will be hung up in mid-May and the program runs through Sept. Ms. Gordon has an extensive background in the arts, fundraising and project management. She will manage the implementation of the recently released Creative District Arts and Culture Plan. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ms. Gordon is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, and researcher whose work centers on socially-engaged collaboration and reclaimed materials at every scale. Her creative clients, employers, partners, and projects span from Florida, to New York, to Washington. These include roles at The Dali Museum, Street Lab, the Tampa Museum of Art, Creative Pinellas, Gasparilla Festival of the Arts, and other nonprofit organizations. The forest health assessments help us evaluate the ecological integrity and functions of forests and streams within our preserves. Our goal is to have ongoing and historical evidence of the progress that our care and management is making at our preserves. Assessments like these provide clear indications about which areas of our preserves need the most attention to accomplish our various management goals. These grants total over $850,000 which will allow for rebuilding of broken sidewalk, paving of Tyler Street, addition of wheelchair ramps, bulbouts for pedestrian safety, planting of trees, and replacement of a handful of trees that have caused the sidewalks to heave. The impetus for this project is to improve accessibility in Uptown. The Jefferson County Farmers Market, DASH, and Jefferson Transit are large supporters to help with mobility of those experiencing disabilities. This project is scheduled for late summer construction in order to meet the deadlines. Since the project will involve paving of Tyler Street, the City Council is asking for feedback on parking options for the section of Tyler Street between Lawrence and Clay Street where there is currently angled parking.
