Support Fred Hutch – Change Lives, Like Leah’s <https://secure.fredhutch.org/site/R?i=h2ViIBAcMhQXAd9EiEQ62_9mfgh3-EnvVRaCmGK0xlr52O_g1h9kmw> Leah was 37 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and began treatment at Fred Hutch, just as the world was heading into lockdown in March 2020. Her treatment consisted of chemotherapy, a lumpectomy, and radiation. “Hearing the words ‘breast cancer’ was definitely a shock,” she said. “I did genetic testing to help see what type of surgery would be best — a mastectomy versus a lumpectomy. The genetic testing came back negative so I had a lumpectomy, which was easier on my body.” Genetic testing helped Leah to make an educated decision about her care so she could live life to the fullest, whether she has cancer or not. Last year, Leah worked with her physicians to pause her medication and continue growing their family.
