Around here we are more than a little obsessed with housing, but arguably we are even more obsessed with fostering community. As indicated in the last newsletter, we will soon be setting
out to collect some much needed housing and workforce data. This will not only help inform the type of housing our community wants and needs, but also help inform the current health
of our community. Akin to making a house a home, we want to ensure our county is more than just a geographic location — that it’s a community, a thriving, connected and generous one.

Workforce Community Survey

A thriving workforce is vital to the quality of life that keeps so many of us here in Jefferson County. Like so many places across the country, housing costs have far outpaced local
wages. We all have stories of those who had to move away, businesses that have suffered and people who have had to compromise on essential needs.
On April 20th we will launch a county-wide survey aimed at better defining our local housing crisis and more accurately understanding the housing needs of this community. We are looking
to quantify the urgency of housing needs, better grasp desired housing types, sizes, locations, amenities and open spaces as they relate to affordability, and connect how housing constraints
impact the local economy. The results of this survey will be shared among government decision makers, builders and contractors, and the community at large to inform development that
supports a diversity of occupations and incomes in our community.
This is no small task and distributing the survey will take a collective effort. After our April 20 launch, please help by forwarding the survey link amongst your own networks. If you

Government Planning Updates

Our local planning departments, commissioners and council members have been busy wrapping their heads around the process for the updating the comprehensive plans for both the County
and City. This is a big, detailed process that won't happen again for 10 years- the deadline for which has now been extended to December 31, 2025. We too are working hard to better
understand this process, learn where to participate and how to help elevate community voices. (For an overview of the updating process you can look to this page by MRCS <https://housingsolutionsnetw

Short Term Rental Discussion

There are currently two permit types for operating a short term rental (STR) in Jefferson County, but according to AirDNA <https://housingsolutionsnetwork.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=38123e1ad
2608f9c4e51e6660&id=4f5b976b01&e=cbc38cef46> , which tracks sites like AirBnB + VRBO, only half of the over 470 short-term rental listings are permitted. STRs represent a potential conflict
with a goal of the Comprehensive Plan: establish of a variety of housing choices throughout the County, including development of ADUs. The county is interested in exploring how to better
