This is so Jefferson County can continue to apply for the Accessible Community Advisory Committee, (ACAC) grant funding from the Governor's Committee on Disability Issues and Employment. Staff also requests approval of the ACAC membership list. Since 2015/2016, Jefferson County has received $206,311.05 in funding for ACAC grant projects that promotes awareness and acceptance of people who experience disabilities through education and access. ACAC projects have had a positive impact on people with mobility impairments, hearing loss, low vision and other access needs in Jefferson County. We have completed projects in Port Townsend, Tri-Area, Coyle, Quilcene, and Brinnon. FISCAL IMPACT/COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS: None RECOMMENDATION: JCPH management request approval of the Letter of Assurance for the Accessible Communities Act: Governor's Committee on Disability Issues and Employment (GCDE) and the ACAC membership list. The Jefferson County ACAC membership includes people with a diverse range of disabilities and/or work in the field, volunteer or are a family member of a person with a disability. The following people are members of the ACAC; John Frasca, Sarah Grossman, Patrick Johnson, Debbie Linner, Emily Mandelbaum, Kelly Matlock, Kim Rafferty, Pat Teal, Richard Tucker, Shirley Williams, and Nancy Villagran. We pride ourselves that membership includes people who are knowledgeable in identifying and eliminating attitudinal,programmatic, communication and physical barriers encountered by and for persons who experience disabilities. It further assures that this Committee is actively involved in the following activities: • Advising the County and other local governments within the County on access to programs, services, and activities,new construction or renovation projects, sidewalks, other pedestrian routes of travel, and disability parking enforcement. • Develop local initiatives, services and projects to promote greater awareness of disability issues that encourage acceptance, involvement and access for persons with disabilities within our community. The following is a list of funded projects we are working on with the intention of improving awareness, access and inclusion for people with disabilities in our community. • Key City Public Theatre/Improved Accessibility to Theater Arts with Technology • Jefferson Land Trust Illahee Preserve/ Improved Accessibility • NAMI: Mental Health-Stigma Project/Providing Educational Resources for Community Members to see Mental Health as a Disability When people who experience disabilities are welcomed and included in all aspects of our communities, everyone benefits. Having an ACAC in Jefferson County has created positive opportunities and we look forward to continuing this partnership.
