Hello,
I hope to make my neighborhood safer. I live in this neighborhood circled in green off of Prospect Ave.
There are many children in this neighborhood and many walkers. We have limited options for getting out and walking or biking. The routes highlighted in green below are used by small
children on bikes to visit one another, the elderly, joggers and dog walkers. This is how we get around our neighborhood.
The blue dot represents the neighborhood children's bus top and is also the location of everyone's mailboxes on Gary Ave. The redline line is Prospect Ave., which enters and departs
this area at 40 mph. The red circle is the stop sign at the intersection of Prospect and Kala Point Drive. It is here that the speed limit is lowered to 25mph.
I propose lowering the speed limit to 25 mph two blocks earlier just before Duquesne Ave. This would slow drivers as they enter this more densely populated area. It is not a big change
to ask for that would keep everyone safer. I understand when these speed limits were set, there were not as many homes here. Now there is a larger population and many vehicles traveling
to and from Kala Point. What steps are necessary for this change to be considered? I have been discussing this topic with a few different public works employees over the last few years.
What are the barriers to making this minor adjustment?
Thank you for your time and consideration
