Good Morning and Happy Monday!
Filing week ended at 5:00pm on Friday evening. There were enough observers hitting the “refresh” button that the traffic caused the Secretary of State’s site to briefly crash. Noteworthy
among the activity:
* 3 Bob Fergusons?? - Two more individuals named “Bob Ferguson” filed for Governor. The Ferguson for Governor campaign is calling foul <https://washingtonstatestandard.com/2024/05/10/three-bob-fergus
ons-now-running-for-governor-as-race-takes-turn-for-the-weird/?emci=fcec4a8c-b20f-ef11-96f3-6045bdd9e096&emdi=1adacc6f-cd0f-ef11-96f3-6045bdd9e096&ceid=154048> and encouraging Secretary
of State Steve Hobbs to take action on what they see as a stunt designed to mislead voters and harm the first Ferguson’s (the one who has raised $6.9M to date) chances in the primary.
* Big Money - Other front runners in the Gov’s race have raised just over $3M (Dave Reichert (R)) and just over $1.2M (Mark Mullet (D)).
* Ballot Order - Ballot order could matter in crowded races like for Gov – frontrunner Bob Ferguson will appear 13th on the ballot (behind the other two Bob Fergusons, at least at the
moment), Dave Reichert will be 16th, and Mark Mullet will be 7th.
* CCA Defense – Two PACs are fundraising to oppose the Climate Commitment Act (CCA) repeal. Opposition to Initiative 2109, includes heavy-hitters like BP and Amazon, as well as some
of Washington’s largest unions, including the Washington Education Association, SEIU, and WFSE/AFSCME.
* OSPI - Challenger Reid Saaris is still outraising incumbent Chris Reykdal 2-to-1 in the Race for State Superintendent.
* Challengers - LD 27 makes an appearance in this report since incumbent Jake Fey has drawn a challenger on his left. His colleagues have both drawn Rs who haven’t raised any money yet.
* Early Winners – Incumbents with no opponent are highlighted in the attached.
A reminder that Washington’s Primary Election will e held on August 6 and the General Election is on November 5.
I’ll be out of the office and traveling for the next two weeks, so responses to email will be delayed until I return. Please feel free to call my cell with anything urgent. I look forward
to reconnecting when I return.
Thank you!
