MINUTES
Special Meeting
June 27, 2007
Chairman Phil Johnson called the Special Meeting to order in the presence of Commissioner
David W. Sullivan and Commissioner John Austin.
Discussion with Washington State Association of Counties (WSAC) Representatives re:
Issuesfor Washington Counties: The Board discussed the following issues with Bill Vogler, Executive
Director ofWSAC and Garfield County Commissioner Dean Burton.
· State legislation for historic preservation of courthouses that provided a portion of the funding for the
Courthouse Clocktower proj ect
· Sales Tax Streamlining legislation
· Increased public health funding to counties
· Distribution of local sales tax for economic development (Public Infrastructure Fund)
· The need for protocols to address Native remains when they are discovered at infrastructure projects
· Changes to the Growth Management Act (GMA) that would allow sewer systems to be installed in
populated communities that aren't designated urban growth areas (UGAs)
· Watershed planning
· Programs offered by NACo including a purchasing program for counties and a deferred
compensation program for county employees
· NACo Drug prescription cards for citizens without drug insurance
· State funding for LEOFF 1 employees
NOTICE OF ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Austin moved to adjourn the meeting at
