Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. Dear Greg, Kate and Heidi, I trust you each know the high regard and esteem in which I hold you, and how grateful I am that you are our county commissioners. Because of my trust in your wisdom, values, care and competence, I believe in my heart of hearts that the Pleasant Harbor Master Planned Resort Is something you will not want to have happen on your watch. I urge you to put a stop to this project that is out of scale and out of touch with the rural character that concerned citizens of Brinnon and Quilcene want to protect, with the county’s environmental well being, and with the safety and viability of two lane Highway 101- THE critical link for travel to and from the Olympic Peninsula when the Hood Canal Bridge is closed for work, weather or “The Big One”. PUD Commissioner Jeff Randall informed our ICG that we are facing very real concerns regarding power and water supply due to drought, low snow pack and increased energy demand- now and in the future. Bonneville Dam’s output continues to decline (20-30% annually) and our hydro-power driven state is building new nuclear power plants to make up for the loss. How is it that our county is willing to provide power to a resort to maintain a hockey rink, and to heat, cool and light 890 residential units that are neither the workforce or affordable housing we truly need? In the face of recent commitments the county has made to the Climate Action Committee, how can a go-cart track be allowed? Can this resort really provide its own water for a golf course, pool, restaurants and 1000 residents or guests, as well as for sewer and storm water systems? Does our county police that? Nothing about this planned resort makes sense to me, nor seems to be in line with your vision for our county. I apologize for not communicating earlier about the Pleasant Harbor Planned Resort. I learned about the scope of the planned development and that it was still a possibility from several concerned members of the MRC at our last monthly meeting. They were raising the alarm. I had mistakenly thought that local community and tribal opposition, post Covid inflation and supply chain issues had put a stop to the proposed resort. I hoped to talk with each of you before sending my letter of opposition to the planning department, (due today at 4pm) but have been traveling since that meeting. Now it’s too late for me to learn from you in what way this planned resort could possibly be a good thing for our county. I have yet to talk with anyone who thinks the Pleasant Harbor Master Planned Resort is a good idea. Sadly, it reminds me of our previous port directors who thought the only way to save Pt. Hudson was to raze its historic buildings. It reminds me also of how close we came to having a 5-star hotel where the Maritime Center now stands. I humbly beg you to say no to this development. Sincerely, Carol Hasse 360-643-3173
