Subject: Jefferson County Strategic Plan
ALERT: BE CAUTIOUS This email originated outside the organization. Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them.
Dear Commissioners,
I was under the impression that Jefferson County had produced a strategic plan. I searched for the latest version of the Jefferson County Strategic Plan on the county's website but could
not find it. All I could find was the 2010 Strategic Plan for Jefferson County and the 2018 Comprehensive Plan for Jefferson County. Within the Comprehensive Plan in the section titled
"Planning Process & Public Participation", I found a brief paragraph that described the Jefferson 2000 Strategic Planning Process.
The Comprehensive Plan is divided into 8 elements. I looked through the Land Use, Natural Resources, and Housing elements. The Comprehensive Plan appears to be a decent long range plan
but it is not even close to being a strategic plan, which — as a strategic planner — I believe is the most effective long range planning tool. Many cities, possibly most, of all sizes
have strategic plans, a few of which I have reviewed.
If there is a county strategic plan, please provide a link to it so I can review it. If there is no strategic plan, I would appreciate it if someone could explain why this is so.
Respectfully,
David Tonkin
