HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation BIGFOOT JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST TO: Board of County Commissioners FROM: Adiel McKnight,Deputy Clerk of the Board DATE: June 3, 2024 SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION re: Recognizing and Honoring Bigfoot STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Board of County Commissioners believes that even if Bigfoot does not exist,the idea and folklore behind Bigfoot bring attention to our stewardship of the natural landscape and reinforce the mystery and metaphor that Bigfoot represents. FISCAL IMPACT: None. RECOMMENDATION• Approve Proclamation re: Recognizing and Honoring Bigfoot. REVIEWED BY: Mark McCauley, 141junty Administrator Date/ PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING AND HONORING BIGFOOT WHEREAS, legends, sightings,research, investigation and recognition by various counties in various states, including Washington, support the notion that Bigfoot(aka Sasquatch, Yeti, and Giant Hairy Ape) exists; and WHEREAS, it is crucial to safeguard and preserve the potential existence of Bigfoot for the purpose of advancing research into the verification of this particular creature; and WHEREAS, Jefferson County desires that its residents recognize the need to protect Bigfoot if it exists; and WHEREAS, Joseph Campbell wrote that"... every myth is psychologically symbolic. Its narratives and images are to be read, therefore, not literally, but as metaphors;"and WHEREAS, even if Bigfoot does not exist, the idea and folklore behind Bigfoot bring attention to our stewardship of the natural landscape and reinforce the mystery and metaphor that Bigfoot represents; and NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners hereby requests that all citizens of Jefferson County recognize this County as a refuge for Bigfoot,to provide both protection and security to any undiscovered life, and to learn to appreciate the mystery and myth of this world.
