For decades, the US Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) used Bradford Island and the Columbia River as a dumping site for Bonneville Dam industrial waste materials, releasing toxic chemicals
into the river and sediment.
As a result, resident fish around Bradford Island - established as a Superfund site in 2022 - have the highest levels of cancer-causing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the nation,
making them unsafe to eat.

The Columbia River and those who rely on it deserve better.
The Yakama Nation has spent two decades demanding federal action to clean up its toxic waste. Federal agencies have finally signed off on a clean up agreement - so we must act now.
